How to Measure 5 Litres Using 10L, 7L, and 3L Vessels?

There is 10-litre milk in a 10-litre Can. How can it be separated as 5 litres each with the help of a 7 litre Can & 3 litre Can?

Solution Explained


Step1:
First, fill a 3litre bottle.
After filling a 3-litre bottle below is the status for all bottles:
10-litre bottle => 7 litre milk
3-litre bottle => 3 litre milk
7-litre bottle empty.

Step2:
Now from a 3-liter bottle fill the 7-liter bottle. 
After the step2 below is the status of the bottle.
10-litre bottle = 7-litre milk
3-litre bottle = empty
7-litre bottle = 3-litre milk

Step 3:
Repeat step1 and,step2 again
After repeating below is the status of the bottle:
10-litre bottle = 4-litre milk
3-litre bottle = empty
7-litre bottle = 6 litre

Step 4:
As a 3-liter bottle is an empty fill it with a 10litre bottle. 
Below is the status of the bottle after filled as per the above step:
10-litre bottle = 1-litre milk
3-litre bottle = 3-litre milk
7-litre bottle = 6-litre milk

Step 5:
Now add 1litre milk into a 7-liter bottle from a 3-liter bottle.
10-litre bottle = 1-litre milk
3litre bottles = 2-litre milk
7litre bottle = 7-litre. milk

Step 6:
Now fill the 10-liter bottle from a 7-liter bottle after the 7litre bottle becomes empty add 2litre milk from a 3litre bottle. 
After step 6 below is the status of the bottle:
10-litre bottle = 8-litre milk
3litre bottle = empty
7litre bottle = 2 litre

Step 7:
Now fill the 3-liter bottle from 10 liters and then fill the 7-liter bottle from a 3litre bottle.
After step7 below are status of the bottle:
10-litre bottle = 5-litre milk
3litre bottle = empty
7litre bottle = 5 Litre milk
